Andrew, originally from East Yorkshire, moved to Borehamwood in the early 1990’s.

For over 35 years he has worked with the Audio-Visual industry, and today works for The Torpedo Factory Group, a company based in North West London, that incorporates a production, audio visual rental facilities, web design, and installation services.

He is well recognized in this field, acknowledged by his peers.

Andrew has been involved in the brass band movement for over 40 years. He started playing a trumpet at the age of eight and then took up playing a cornet.

In 1972 he became a member of a youth brass band in his hometown, then in 1977 joined his first adult contesting band, performing on many concert & contest stages throughout the UK, including numerous local radio broadcasts.

In 1991 he moved from the Yorkshire area to live in the South East of England. Naturally he became a member of Borehamwood Brass, and regularly plays with many different bands throughout the area. He has, in the course of his career toured Sweden, Denmark, France, Germany, Yugoslavia and Switzerland.

Andrew is also on the management committee of the organization that runs the National Brass Band Contests in London and the South East. Locally Andrew regularly plays at many different Church functions, Civic Events and Remembrance Sunday parades within the town.

Andrew met his wife Erika, whilst she was visiting the town on a partnership visit in 2000. They married in 2005, a year after Erika moved to live in the town.

Andrew is involved with Hertsmere Acoustic Club, and regularly plays at their monthly sessions at ‘The Crypt Bar, in Rossington Avenue, Borehamwood.

Andrew has served on the management committees of the town twinning association, (BETTA), holding the office of Vice Chairman between 2011 until 2016., and was treasurer of the association from 2016 until 2019.

He was at the centre of the arrangements, within the association, when Musikverein Rammersweier visited Borehamwood a few years ago.

He is currently the secretary of Borehamwood Brass, and has been involved with setting up of the Elstree Mozart Players, a new orchestra, developing this in conjunction with Derek Holland, and Cllr Pat Strack.

Andrew delivered a presentation, in 2017 to Elstree and Borehamwood Town Council, bringing forward an idea to build an open-air entertainment venue for the benefit of the whole community, being an idea, he had whilst performing at a bandstand in Bedfordshire.

Following this, and after deliberations the council agreed with the idea and formed a working group with the brief to look at the feasibility for having this facility.

Andrew was instrumental in organising a series of summer brass band concerts in Meadow Park, which was identified as the most suitable location, given that Hertsmere Borough Council revamping the park facilities, presenting a series of four concerts in 2018, which was repeated in 2019.

It is hoped that this will become a regular feature in Meadow Park, once the permanent structure has been agreed.

Andrew was awarded with a Civic Award in 2018 for his services and contribution to enhance the well-being of the community. .
